What is included in the room?
Each residence hall room is furnished with two single beds, two desks, two lamps, two desk chairs, two dressers, two closets, window blinds, one phone jack, two data port and one waste basket. A floor fan, television, or radio/alarm may make the room more personal. Students must provide their own touch-tone phone. We encourage students to contact their roommate to discuss what she or he is bringing to campus.

What are the sizes of the mattresses in the rooms?
All mattresses are 80" by 36".

May I bring my own carpet?
Yes. Students may bring their own carpet, provided it meets safety and fire regulations. Carpet must have a class III or better rating (76-200 flame spread).

What appliances are allowed?

All appliances must be registered with hall staff. Appliance registration information are provided by the hall staff.

Other than a television, stereo, radio and/or computer, heavy appliances are prohibited. Permitted items include:

Electric hair rollers
curling irons
electric irons
Microwaves
hot air poppers
Microwaves*
Pop-up toasters
thermostatically controlled coffee pots
crock-pots
Refrigerators+

*Microwaves are restricted to 700 watts or less; +refrigerators are restricted to 4.5 cubic feet.

For obvious safety reasons, some appliances NOT permitted:

Hot plates
toaster ovens deep fryers
Electric frying pans
Appliances with an open heating element.

Students must provide a U.L. approved power strip with a self-contained circuit breaker if they plan to operate any of the above appliances in their room. When using a cooking appliance, the student must always be in the room and attentive to the appliance in order to prevent fires.

Appliances not approved or deemed to be unsafe will be confiscated and will be returned to the student at the end of the academic year.

Are bicycles allowed in the rooms?
Bicycles may be stored in resident's rooms if the resident has a private room. A locked bicycle storage area is provided in each Residence Hall. Please check with the Residence Hall Coordinator for specific information.

Are weights allowed in the rooms?
Weights, including vinyl covered dumbbells (up to 50 pounds), are allowed in a resident's carpeted room. Barbells are not permitted in the residence hall.

Can I connect to the Internet from my residence hall room?

Yes. RESNET, or the Residence Hall Network, provides access to the University Network system from the residence hall rooms via a special data communications jack.

ResNet (Residential Networking) is the computer network service provided to students living in the residence halls and Brockton at Eastern Kentucky University. It provides students with a high-speed Internet connection in their rooms. For more information please call ResNet at 859-622-3050 or follow this link RESNet.

Does the school provide a room refrigerator?
Yes, a 2.0 cubic foot refrigerator is included in each room. For $10 per semester you may register your privately owned refrigerator. It cannot exceed 4 cubic feet or 32" in height and 22" in width.

Is cable TV provided?
Yes. Basic cable TV service is provided in each room. All you need is a cable ready television and a connecting cord. For an additional fee, the premium cable TV channels are also available.

Is telephone service provided?
Yes. Each room is provided with a telephone jack and local telephone service. A student must bring his/her own touch-tone telephone. If a student wishes long distance service, information is provided at registration. Premium telephone services, available for an additional fee, include: Three-way calling, Caller ID, call waiting and automatic call back.
