Who cleans my room?
You. Each student is responsible for cleaning his/her own room. If living in a suite, the suite resident(s) must clean the suite bathroom. A member of the housekeeping staff cleans community baths. The Housekeeper is an important member of our community and a person worth getting to know. Hall staff on a regular basis conducts a room inspection for safety and health.

Where can I find a good place to study?
The Library has excellent facilities and resources for EKU students to utilize. Specific rooms and areas in the halls are designated for study, and all halls follow the established courtesy and quiet hours:

Daily Quiet Hours - 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 am
(The hall councils may vote to extend these hours.)

Each residence hall has one or more study rooms available to residents who ask at their hall front desk.

Where can I find the rules that I need to follow while living on campus?
Rules that students must follow while at EKU are printed in the Guide to Residence Hall Living, the University Handbook, Housing Contract and other university publications. Many publications are available at residence hall check in, with others being available in the Student Affairs office or at Housing Office.

What is consolidation?
Consolidation is the process by which students in a double room without a roommate are relocated into a new room. Relocation relieves the remaining student from the need to pay for the room as a private room. This process occurs and continues throughout each semester.

Students receive a series of letters explaining the process and are requested to meet with an EKU Housing assignments staff member to receive assistance. This process is necessary to provide for more efficient use of space within the residence halls. It allows for additional space to be used to meet student requests for private and special purpose rooms. Students failing to consolidate will be charged the private room fee.

What is visitation/open house?
A visitor is defined as any guest, male or female, of a resident. Overnight guests of the same gender as the resident are allowed for a maximum of two nights and must be registered at the front desk in the hall. Guests under 6 years of age must be approved each visit and in advance by the Residential Coordinator. Hours for open house/visitation, when a guest of the opposite gender may visit in a student room, are:

All Halls:

Monday through Wednesday
12 noon - 12 midnight

Thursday through Sunday
Extended Visitation
12 noon on Thursday - 12 midnight on Sunday

Cohabitation prohibited.

If I need help whom should I contact?
The Resident Assistant (RA) is available for help and lives within your community. There are a number of RAs in each building and you should feel free to go to any of them. The other staff member in your building is the Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC). The RHC is a live in professional staff member who is available to assist you with any issues that you may have.

Does the University insure my belongings?
EKU does not insure personal belongings and does not assume liability for theft or damage. However, you may already be covered if your parents have a homeowners or renters insurance policy. You may want to check with them. Personal property insurance for students may be purchased and a flier is included with the assignment letter packet.
