Move In Day 2009!
Frequently Asked Questions

When is Move In Day for new freshmen and new transfer students?
Friday, August 21, 2009

*** (NOTE: Returning students are to move in on Saturday, August 22, 2009 beginning at 8:00am.)***

How can I sign up to volunteer?
Forms are located on the housing.eku.edu page, choose the application form from the drop down menu at the top of the page that fits your “status” and either complete it and return via e-mail to MoveInDay@eku.edu or print out the form, complete it and mail it to the housing office address

When will I know my placement?
In August about 2-3 weeks before Move In Day (near the beginning of August)

Do I have to help students move their stuff into their rooms?
Current EKU Students help new students move items into the halls.  Faculty/Staff/retirees and alumni help with the Move In Day check in process, parking lot control and elevator control.

How do I request a particular hall, station assignment or to work with a particular person/colleague?
There is blank space in the area where you mark your preferred work station, any notes you might want to convey can be written in this area.  Some Halls that have traditionally had volunteers will not need them this year due to the change in freshmen assignments and designated upper class halls. We will do the best we can to honor requests.  Halls that will NOT have volunteers are Clay, Combs, Telford, Walters, Todd,  Dupree, and McGregor.

I am pregnant, have mobility issues and can’t work outside or do particular tasks, where should I put this information?
Please indicate your specific need in the blank space in the workstation preference section.

What Halls will need volunteers?
Commonwealth, Palmer, Keene, Martin, Sullivan. We might need volunteers in Burnam and Case depending on how many freshmen are assigned to these halls for the Fall.

I noticed there are not as many halls listed that will need volunteers, does that mean you need fewer people to volunteer?
We will need the same number of volunteers in the halls  at check in stations and more volunteers in the parking lots.  We will be adding more volunteers to each Move In station to cut down on how long people have to wait in line for each part of the Move In process.  We will be adding additional volunteers in the parking lots to help encourage parents and students to move their cars from the unloading areas to allow those spaces to be used for unloading during later check in times.

I am a student and want to help with Move In Day but I am not part of a group that is coming early to help, how do I sign up?
Complete the Group form and circle “Individual Affiliation”

Will there be training for volunteers?
Yes, remember to check the e-mail address you provide in your application form.  You will receive your assignment and available training dates for your work station.  There will be a variety to choose from, we try to offer sessions morning, noon and afternoon to work with volunteer schedules.

When do I get my Move In Day T-shirt?
Faculty/staff/alumni/retirees you will receive a t-shirt to wear on Move In Day when you attend your Move In Day Training Session.  Students are encouraged to wear shirts with their organization name and/or logo printed on them.  This allows students to get to know our student organizations and can encourage them to get involved in groups that they found helpful during Move In Day!

What is the Theme for Move In Day?
Oceans of Opportunity
